Volcanic Sint Eustatius

Sint Eustatius, often known as Statia, is a superb choice for travellers who enjoy history and walking. Trails lead through the slopes of The Quill, a dormant volcano covered in lush vegetation. The climb can be demanding in the heat, but the changing scenery and broad views across the island make it well worthwhile.

Take an early guided walk to learn about the forest, volcanic geology and local wildlife, then cool down with a swim or a relaxed afternoon in Oranjestad. Saba’s Steep Trails

Saba is the island for serious scenery and rewarding hikes. Known as the Unspoilt Queen, it rises dramatically from the sea, with steep paths, thick forest and spectacular viewpoints. The Mount Scenery trail is the headline walk, passing through changing vegetation before reaching the island’s highest point.

July can bring warm, humid conditions, so start early, carry plenty of water and wear sturdy footwear. Saba is also renowned for excellent diving around its protected marine park, where underwater pinnacles and clear water create a memorable alternative to exploring on land.
