BVI Scuba Diving

Why Dive in February?

February is an excellent time for a British Virgin Islands scuba diving holiday. The islands enjoy warm, settled weather, with plenty of sunshine and comfortable sea temperatures that make it easy to spend long periods in the water. Visibility is often impressive, allowing you to appreciate the reefs, walls and wrecks in detail.

This is also a good month for exploring several dive sites in one trip. The BVI is made up of numerous islands and cays, each with its own character beneath the surface. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced diver looking for something more challenging, local operators can help you choose suitable sites and arrange guided excursions.

Wrecks and Reefs

The famous RMS Rhone is one of the Caribbean’s most memorable wreck dives. This former Royal Mail ship sank near Salt Island in 1867 and now rests in sections across the seabed. Divers can see the propeller, engine and dramatic hull, while barracuda, jacks and colourful reef fish often move through the wreck.

There is far more to British Virgin Islands diving than the Rhone. Sites around Norman Island, Cooper Island and Virgin Gorda feature coral gardens, rocky formations and lively drop-offs. Turtles, rays, moray eels and an array of smaller reef creatures may all appear during a dive, so it is worth taking your time and looking closely.

Choosing a Dive Centre

Reputable BVI dive centres offer equipment hire, refresher sessions, beginner courses and boat trips for qualified divers. February can be a popular period for Caribbean holidays, so booking your preferred excursions in advance is sensible, particularly if you want a particular wreck or a smaller group.

When comparing operators, ask about the planned depth, current, boat facilities and group size. A good instructor or guide will explain local conditions clearly and match the outing to your experience. If you have not dived recently, a short refresher is a simple way to feel confident before heading to deeper sites.

More Than Diving

A scuba diving holiday in February works especially well because the islands offer plenty to do between dives. Sail around the sheltered bays, snorkel from a quiet beach or visit a waterfront restaurant for fresh seafood and a cold drink. The pace is relaxed, but there is always another island or hidden cove to discover.

Allow time to enjoy the surface as well as the underwater scenery. With warm weather, beautiful beaches and friendly island hospitality, the British Virgin Islands combine excellent diving with an easy-going Caribbean escape. For clear water, varied sites and a memorable winter break, February is a particularly appealing time to visit.
