Puerto Rico Diving

Why Dive Puerto Rico in February?

February is an excellent month for scuba diving in Puerto Rico. The weather is generally warm and comfortable, with plenty of sunshine and less humidity than later in the year. Sea conditions are often calm, making it easier to enjoy clear views beneath the surface, whether you are a first-time diver or an experienced underwater explorer.

Water temperatures remain pleasantly warm, so most divers are comfortable in a lightweight wetsuit. February is also outside the main hurricane season, which means you can plan a diving holiday with greater confidence. Add in lively towns, beautiful beaches and excellent food, and Puerto Rico makes a rewarding winter escape.

Best Dive Areas

La Parguera, on the island’s south-west coast, is a popular choice for February scuba diving. Its sheltered waters can provide enjoyable conditions, with coral formations, colourful fish and interesting underwater landscapes to discover. Local dive operators offer trips for different abilities, including guided dives for visitors who are unfamiliar with the area.

For a memorable day out, consider travelling to nearby islands such as Vieques or Culebra. These quieter destinations are known for clear water, healthy reefs and a relaxed atmosphere above the waves. Culebra is particularly appealing for divers who enjoy combining reef exploration with peaceful beaches and small-island charm.

What You Can See

Puerto Rico’s reefs are home to an impressive variety of marine life. During February dives, you may spot angelfish, parrotfish, wrasse and schools of smaller tropical fish moving across the reef. Sea turtles are also seen in some locations, while rays, moray eels and lobsters often hide among rocks and coral.

Visibility varies by location and weather, but good February conditions can offer rewarding underwater views. Reef walls, sandy channels and rock formations create plenty of interest, and night diving gives you the chance to see creatures that remain hidden during the day. Your dive centre can recommend sites based on recent conditions and your experience.

Planning Your Diving Holiday

Choose a reputable dive centre with qualified instructors and well-maintained equipment. If you have not dived recently, a refresher session is a sensible way to rebuild confidence before heading to deeper sites. Beginners can also find introductory experiences and training courses, while certified divers can book guided boat dives.

Allow time between diving and flying, and remember to bring certification details if you are already qualified. Outside the water, make time for Puerto Rico’s historic streets, forest trails and local restaurants. A February scuba diving holiday here can be as relaxed or adventurous as you want, with warm Caribbean days and fascinating underwater experiences waiting along the coast.
