Puerto Rico Diving

June Diving Conditions

June is an excellent time for a Puerto Rico scuba diving holiday, particularly if you enjoy warm water, bright marine life and a relaxed atmosphere. Sea temperatures are usually around 28°C, so a thin wetsuit or rash vest is generally enough for comfort during longer dives.

Visibility can be very good, often ranging from 15 to 30 metres depending on the site and local conditions. The seas are commonly calmest in the morning, making an early boat trip a sensible choice. June is also outside the busiest winter travel period, so you may find a more peaceful experience at popular dive centres and on the reefs.

Where To Dive

Puerto Rico offers a useful mix of diving areas for beginners and experienced divers. Around the main island, sites near Fajardo and the north-east coast provide easy access to reefs, rocky walls and sheltered bays. These waters are a good choice if you want to combine diving with time in San Juan or a coastal resort.

For a more memorable escape, consider a trip to the islands of Vieques or Culebra. Their clear Caribbean water and quieter beaches create a laid-back setting, with reefs that can feature colourful fish, sea turtles and rays. Experienced divers may also enjoy boat trips to deeper walls and offshore sites, although availability depends on weather and the operator’s schedule.

Marine Life Encounters

Underwater Puerto Rico is full of small details as well as larger sightings. Look closely around coral heads and rocky ledges for angelfish, parrotfish, wrasse, moray eels and tiny reef creatures. Green and hawksbill turtles are among the most exciting encounters, particularly around seagrass beds and healthy reef areas.

June can also bring lively activity to the reef as warm water encourages feeding and movement. Every dive is different, but the combination of clear water, tropical fish and dramatic underwater scenery makes even a gentle, shallow dive feel rewarding. A local guide can point out species that are easy to miss and explain how to enjoy the reef responsibly.

Planning Your Dive Holiday

Choose a certified dive centre with experienced local guides, well-maintained equipment and small groups where possible. If you are new to scuba diving, Puerto Rico has calm sites and introductory experiences, while certified divers can arrange guided reef, wall and wreck dives. Bring proof of certification and allow enough time between diving and your flight home.

It is wise to book boat dives ahead during school holidays, but leave some flexibility for changing sea conditions. Outside the water, June is ideal for enjoying Puerto Rico’s beaches, rainforest scenery, historic San Juan and lively local food. With warm seas and plenty to explore above and below the surface, Puerto Rico scuba diving in June is an easy holiday to picture and a rewarding one to plan.
