March Adventures

Caribbean Holidays, March Adventures, A bright March morning on a Caribbean beach in the United States Virgin Islands, with calm turquoise water, green hills and a small sailing boat offshore

Why Visit in March

March is an excellent time for an adventure holiday in the United States Virgin Islands. The weather is generally warm, sunny and pleasantly breezy, making it comfortable to explore beyond the beach. With plenty of daylight, you can enjoy an active morning and still have time for a relaxed swim or sunset drink.

The islands of St Thomas, St John and St Croix each offer a different experience. St Thomas is lively and convenient, St John is known for its protected coastline and beautiful national park, while St Croix has a more spacious feel and a fascinating blend of Caribbean, Danish and American influences.

Hiking Through Nature

For walkers, March is a rewarding month to explore Virgin Islands National Park on St John. Trails lead through dry tropical woodland to viewpoints, historic plantation ruins and quiet coves. The Reef Bay Trail is a good choice for seeing the island’s natural side, although sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential.

Less demanding routes can take you towards beaches such as Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay and Maho Bay. Keep an eye out for colourful birds, lizards and butterflies, and remember that the heat can build quickly even during the cooler part of the day. A local guide can add useful insight into the island’s plants, wildlife and history.

Water-Based Adventures

Clear water and sheltered bays make the US Virgin Islands ideal for kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling. Maho Bay is particularly popular with families and first-time snorkellers, as sea turtles are often seen in the shallow water. Swim calmly and give marine life plenty of space.

Boat trips are another excellent way to experience the islands in March. You might sail around St John, visit small cays or spend a day exploring nearby islands. Diving is also rewarding, with coral reefs, colourful fish and underwater walls offering something for both beginners and experienced divers.

Island Exploring

Hiring a car is a practical option on St Thomas or St Croix if you want to discover beaches, viewpoints and local restaurants at your own pace. On St John, ferries and taxis make it easy to reach the national park and its famous bays. Allow extra time for winding roads and enjoy the journey rather than rushing between stops.

March can be a busy period, so book popular excursions and accommodation early. Pack light clothing, reef-safe sun protection, a reusable water bottle and comfortable walking shoes. With a little planning, a March adventure holiday in the United States Virgin Islands can combine active days, welcoming local culture and plenty of time beside the sea.
